the nature of things Curt B Vevang 9781519422668 Books

the nature of things is a collection of thought provoking, introspective, humorous and compassionate poetry and essays as well as short, short stories depicting the breath and depth of growing up in Chicago in the 40's and 50's. It is poetic, humorous, philosophical and in total very non-classifiable.

The book is definitely a fun read. Not a lot of poems written, but those included show easy humor and quick insight, I found myselfreading some of them a 2nd and 3rd time. The author is able to navigate the difficulty of laughing at life, yet still reminding us of life's ultimate meaning:
"...as it is in Monopoly, at the end no one gets to keep their houses or their money. Funny how that works."
There are also some humorous childhood memories, but the poetry alone is worth the price of admission.
